Jerry I. Mitchell, Sr. 67
Of Gastonia, NC passed away Thursday, October 7, 2004 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 25, 1937 in Gaston County to the late Jesse Andrew and Clara Calhoun Mitchell. He was educated in the schools of Gaston County having graduated from Gastonia High School class of 1954. After, graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during which time he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. He was a licensed plumber and pipe fitter and was retired from Firestone Fibers & Textiles with 39 years service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and most recently attended Trinity Assembly Church, a Mason, and belonged to Masonic Lodge #668, Gastonia. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Karen Houser Mitchell, sons & daughter-in-law, Jerry I. Mitchell, Jr. of Gastonia, Dean & Cindi Mitchell of Dallas, daughters & sons-in-law, Marliese & Donnie Lowrimore of Dallas, Susan & George Murphy of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Jacob, Nola & Caleb Lowrimore, Lindsey & Sidney Mitchell, Crystal Murphy & Stephanie Barnett; great-grandchildren, Austin Mitchell & Audrey Lowrimore; sister & brother-in-law, Barbara & Kenneth Jenkins of Gastonia; brother & sister-in-law, Buddy & Vivian Smith of Gastonia; mother-in-law, Belle M. Sanders of Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 8:30 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2004, in the Magnolia Room of Howell Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Dean Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 10, 2004, 3:00 pm at Trinity Assembly Church with Rev. Leroy Easler officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
