Jewell D. Martin

July 13, 1934 — May 3, 2025

Jewell Martin, age 90, passed away peacefully after a full and happy life devoted to faith and loving her family. She was born on July 13, 1934, in Brooks County, Georgia, to the late Artice Burton Simpson and Ruby Jewell Cannon Simpson.
She is survived by her sister, Victoria Simpson Starling, and sister-in-law, June Beck Simpson. She was a devoted mother to her children: James Michael Martin, Randall Lynn Martin, Phillip Lee Martin, Steven Dwayne Martin (Nancy), and Teresa Louise Walker (Clancy).
Jewell was a proud grandmother to Joe Martin (Donna), Samuel Martin (Jodi), Autumn Delaney Davis, Brandy Turner (David), Ashley Mays (Trevor), Travis Martin (Betty Dame), Billy Martin (Mary), Christopher Blount, Stephanie Blount, Amber Jewell White (Casey), Gage Collins (Hannah), Amber Lee Walker, and Eithyn Walker.
She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her 28 great-grandchildren: Foch, Breeana, Ashley, Hunter, Parker-Lynn, Garrett, Tyson, Trinity, David, Taylor, Olivia, James, Layla, Tacoma, Dylan, Savannah, Izabelle, Kevilon, Bryston, Owen, Eliza-Jewell, Gabriel, Ryleigh, Carolyn-Ann, Ava-Mae, and River-Lynn; and 6 great-great-grandchildren: Ivan, Alivia, Landyn-Marie, Jersey-Rayne, Ellie-Mae, and Nova-Belle.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Simpson; sisters, Carolyn Wimer (Kenneth Wimer) and Faye Rountree; her firstborn child (twin to Mike); daughter-in-law, Debbie Martin; grandson, Samuel Martin; and great-great-granddaughter, Blake-Everleigh.
Throughout her life, she selflessly helped raise many of her grandchildren and was known for her unwavering support and unconditional love. Her family was her greatest pride and joy—she celebrated their accomplishments as if they were her own and never gave up on those she loved. She was their greatest cheerleader, always offering wisdom, strength, and encouragement.
She was a woman of deep faith and quiet strength, who found joy in the simple pleasures of life—reading, watching her favorite Westerns, Jeopardy!, and Wheel of Fortune. Always poised and proper, she carried herself with grace and dignity. A retired rural postal carrier of 24 years, she also proudly supported her former husband, James Edward Martin, during his service in the United States Air Force, living across the country and spending several years in the Panama Canal Zone.
She will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, and the profound impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Words cannot express how dearly she will be missed.
A funeral service celebrating her amazing life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
