Jimmy Lawson Blanton – 68 of Hahira, GA passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hahira, GA to the late Martha Anne (Cooper) and Mannis Daulton Blanton, Sr. Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, as well as a member of the reserves. Jimmy went on to have a dedicated and fulfilling 30-year career with local law enforcement. He retired from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and retired as lieutenant. In his free time, Jimmy was a private pilot, lover of boating, and he authored a book about the Blanton family genealogy.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kathy Blanton of Hahira, GA; Daughter, Carmen Simpson and husband Thomas of Valdosta, GA; Son, Jay Blanton and wife Whitney of Hahira, GA; Grandchildren: Emmy and Ava Simpson, Piper and Paylin Blanton; Brother, M.D. “Dee” Blanton, Jr. and wife Gail of Lakeland, GA; Uncle, Bill Cooper of Chattanooga, TN; Mother-in-Law, Jeanne Reddick of Valdosta, GA; Sister-in-Law, Alison Smith and husband Johnny of Brookfield, GA; Brothers-in-Law: Mike Markham of Summerfield, NC, Art and Alex Reddick; Nieces and Nephews: Dana Boruff and husband Brad of Lakeland, GA, Tim Blanton of Lakeland, GA, Brittany Kirkland and husband Tony of TyTy, GA, Casey Markham of Raleigh, NC, Dawn Peak, Kahli Quate and husband Tyler of Greensboro, NC; Great Nieces and Nephews, Bryce Boruff and Alyssa Blanton.
Services honoring Jimmy’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday July 2, 2020 in the Cherry Creek Baptist Church with a burial to follow in the Burnt Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday night from 5-7 PM at Music Funeral Services, Lakeland.
