James “Jimmy” Lamar Sammons, 79, of Ray City, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 13, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on August 22, 1946, in Valdosta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Raymond Lamar Sammons and Sadie Mae Davis Sammons.
Jimmy was a lifelong farmer, known for his unwavering dedication to the land and his tireless work ethic. Season after season, he poured his heart into every crop, taking pride in the fruits of his labor. Beyond the fields, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life — tending to his yard, playing poker with friends, and “rambling” around town, where he never met a stranger.
A natural mentor, Jimmy also served as a football coach, where he took great pride in guiding and encouraging the younger generation, sharing not only athletic skills but also life lessons and values that stuck with those he coached.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Sammons and his sister, Angela Connell.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine Sammons of Ray City, Georgia; children: Melissa Golden (Teddy Prescott of Nashville, Georgia and James “Ray” Sammons (Lisa) of Ray City, Georgia; grandchildren: Jason Golden (Evelin Del Angel) of Nashville, Georgia and Dillon Sammons (Harley) of Valdosta, Georgia; great grandchildren: Bexley and Beau; sister, Joy Gaskins of Lakeland, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
As per his wishes, he will be cremated with no final farewell services held. Kind words and expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at www.musicfuneralservices.com. The Sammons family is being served by the professional and caring staff of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta.
