John Henry Kent, age 91, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025.
John was born on October 5, 1933, in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, dedicating his life to his country with honor and commitment. After retiring from the military, he continued serving his community by working in security at the Valdosta Mall and later as a correctional officer at both Lowndes Correctional Institute and Valdosta State Prison.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather – a true family man who always put his loved ones first. John was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Rena Mae and Frank Kent, brother, Bill Kent, and sisters, Melba Hunter and Sue Carter. He is survived by his sister, Judie Pressley, beloved wife, Etta Kent; his daughters, Elaine Zimmerman (Kent) and Christina Kent; and his grandchildren, Micah, Shiloh, Elijah, Isabella, and Oliver, who brought him endless pride and joy.
John loved being outdoors and had a gift for building anything his family needed – from birdhouses and swing sets to playhouses, carports, and his shop. After a long day’s work, he enjoyed relaxing with Jim Beam and Coke.
Wherever he went, John made friends. He loved talking to everyone he met, always sharing his jokes at every get-together, leaving people laughing and smiling. He loved fishing and was an avid collector of all sorts of things, always finding treasures wherever he went.
John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and deep love for his family. His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the many memories he created. As he always said, “I did it my way.”
