John Alan Olsen – 61
Of Lakeland, GA passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA following a brief illness. He was born on October 5, 1956 in Fayetteville, NC to the late Eldon David Olsen and Sara Bishop Olsen. John attended Hayward High School Hayward, WI class of 1974, as well as the University of Wisconsin Superior where he was a member of TKE Fraternity. John entered the military after graduation and retired as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force working in the K9 Security unit, while stationed abroad he served in Korea, and the Philippines. During his tours, John had the privilege of working with Vice President George H W. Bush. After retirement from the military, John joined the Lakeland Police Department in Lakeland, GA and later became a Criminal Investigator for the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office in Lakeland, GA where he served until his death. When not working at the Sheriff’s office, John loved fishing with his Brother-in-law, William Gilliard.
Survivors include: Wife of 35 years, Sandy Olsen of Lakeland, GA; 2 Daughters, Jasmine Olsen of Lakeland, GA; Lauren Olsen of Valdosta, GA; Mother, Sara Seitz of Hayward, WI Sister & Brother-in-Law Mary Lou & Raymond Harris of Superior WI, Nancy & William Gilliard of Lakeland, GA, Brother & sister-in-Law James & Cynthia Olsen of Cave Creek, AZ, Step-Sisters Sharon & Gary Birkenmeier of Eau Claire, WI, Kay & Howard Seih Hayward, WI, Step-Brother Douglas & Mary Seitz Hayward, WI, Several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
As per his wishes, John will be cremated and a Memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00A.M. in Southside Baptist Church with full military and law enforcement honors being rendered. John will be sadly missed by all of his family, friends and fellow officers. Sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com .
