John “Charles” Sumner, age 85, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026. He was born on March 1, 1940, in Moultrie, GA to parents Grady Sumner and Lucille Mathis Sumner.
He proudly served in the United States Army, carrying with him the values of dedication and service throughout his life. A hardworking man, he found joy not only in his work but also in traveling and experiencing the world around him.
For many years, he worked as an electrician, where his skill and steady hands helped build and maintain cable systems that connected communities. His strong work ethic and determination led to a successful and fulfilling career.
Above all, he cherished his family. His greatest joy was his grandson, Cash, whom he loved deeply and wholeheartedly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne Sumner, Eugene Sumner, and James Ray Sumner.
He is survived by his sons, Wade Sumner (Brandi) of Valdosta, GA and Derrick Sumner of North Carolina; grandchildren, Cash Sumner, Aubrey Michek, and Trenton Brooks; brother Roy Sumner of Adel, GA and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
