Johnny Cooper – 72 of Ray City, GA passed away Friday afternoon January 12, 2018 in South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA after declining health for several months. He was born July 22, 1945 to the late John Thomas and Sarah Lucille Merritt Cooper in Broxton, Coffee Co. GA. He lived most of his life in the Ray City, GA and was a mechanic through Civil Service at Moody Air Force Base until his retirement. The Cooper Brothers was a well known name in the Dirt Track Racing sport for many years. They started racing in 1968 their yellow # 68 race car traveled many miles winning races until 1998 retiring from the racing business as well. His church, the First Baptist Church in Ray City, GA will miss his presence especially his singing in the church choir. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Bristol Cooper, Brothers Danny Ray Cooper and Jerome Cooper, Sisters Betty Joyce Gray and Martha Jean Berger, Great Grandson Kevin Drake Cooper.

Cooper, Ray City; 2 Sons & Daughters-in-law: Michael & Daphinne Cooper, Nashville, Steven & Erica Cooper, Valdosta; Grandchildren: Darren Cooper (Leah Varnadore), Derrick Cooper (Deanne), Danielle Cooper (Ryan Boggs), Colten Cooper, Caleb Cooper Cannon Cooper; Great Grandson: Kameron Cooper; Step-Children: Kim and Ritchie Conner, Tifton, GA, Michael Stone, Leesburg, GA, Melissa Stone, Adel, GA; 4 Step Grandchildren; 1 Great Step Grandchild; Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Alma Moakley, Adel, GA, James and Linda Cooper, Ray City, GA, Linda and Randy Adle, Valdosta, GA, Skeeter and Rachel Cooper, Morven, GA, Glenda and Jimmy Alexander, Hahira, GA, Brenda and Cleon Knight, Nashville, GA and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 15, 2018 in the First Baptist Church in Ray City with burial following in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Mr. Cooper will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
