Joie B. Emma Allen
Services for Joie Emma Allen, 89, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Lakeland United Methodist Church, Lakeland, GA with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. She passed away Saturday May 26, 2007 in Dublin. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Music Funeral Services in Lakeland.
She was born Joie Leslie Brown on March 29, 1918, in Doyline, LA. She was known all her life by her childhood nickname, Emma.
The widow of Rev. W. Eugene Allen, she served by his side as he pastored churches throughout the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. A talented artist, she drew pictures of their churches for the fronts of church bulletins. She baked cakes, made candy, sewed items for church bazaars, made jelly, and grew flowers in her role for 45 years as the pastors wife. The Allens last full-time appointment was Lakeland United Methodist Church. Because they loved the community so much, they retired there in 1985. Miss Emma continued to live there until September 2006 when she moved to Dublin.
Miss Emma was the daughter and youngest child of the late James William and Joie Yates Brown. Her brother Stewart Davis Brown preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter Dahlia Allen Wren of Dublin, a granddaughter Vonnie Wren Danny Angelo, grandson Stuart Stephanie Wren, and six greatgrandsons Jakob and Jordan Wren, Cole and Daniel Angelo, Justin Caldwell, and Jarrod Jernigan, all of Macon three sisters-in-law Reba Allen Evans of Sylvania, Virginia Allen Daniel of Savannah, Juanita Allen Wilmer Burns of Newington - and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Dale Thornton, Rev. Rich Wright, and Rev. Charles Cox officiated. Pallbearers were Stuart Wren, Danny Angelo, Sherrill Wren, Loyd Shaw, John Fitton and J.C. Browning.
