Joseph Phillips Hiers

Of Blairsville, GA passed away on October 1, 2011 after a sudden illness. Joseph was born on May 16, 1942 in Quitman, GA. Son of the late Joseph and Della Mae Sweat Hiers. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and James Hiers, and sister, Vonnie Hiers Godbold.
A U.S. Air Force Veteran with 20 years of dedicated service. Joseph retired as Master Sargent in 1982. In addition to his family and friends, Joe, also known as Phil by his brothers and sisters, loved boating and fishing.
Surviving Joseph are his loving wife, Charlotte Ann Roe Hiers, four step-children, David, Bill, Marcia Gaskins and Ramona Campbell, as well as brothers, John and Herbert Hiers, Charles Roberts, and Eugene Tallmadge. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services and burial will follow in the Lovejoy Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held for Joe's Blairsville friends and church family at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Notla Baptist Church in Murphy, N.C.
