Kenneth Dale Godwin, 79, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on September 20, 1944, in Quitman, Georgia, to Lunice Edward Godwin and Fannie Bethea Godwin, he grew up with a strong sense of duty and dedication.
Kenny proudly served in the United States Army for six years, including time in the Vietnam War, where he earned numerous medals and commendations for his service. After returning to civilian life, he found joy in simple pleasures such as playing bingo, cards, and attending Lowndes High School Football Games. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and enjoyed hunting.
Known for his punctuality and dedication, Kenny was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, reflecting his commitment to those he cared about. He was always up for anything, enjoyed traveling, and, above all, cherished his family deeply.
Kenneth Dale Godwin will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, love for life, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Along with his parents, Kenny is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Jean Godwin, who he cared for unselfishly in her final years of life; his grandson, Donald “Austin” Watson; sisters: Rose Coppedge and Darlene Coppedge; brothers: Charles Godwin and Rollins Godwin.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Randy Boyd of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Donald Wrye, Jr of Valdosta; granddaughter and her husband, Lindsey and Kevin Wilson of Valdosta; granddaughter and her husband, Kamie and Chris Crumley of Valdosta; grandson and his wife, Daniel and Brooke Wrye of Hahira; great grandchildren: Dalton Wilson, Kinsley Crumley, Gabby Wrye, Landon Wrye, Brysen Wrye and Sophia Wrye; sister, Mary Ann Dell of Morven; brother, Lee Godwin of Morven; brother-in-law, Bobby Coppedge of Dasher; special friend, Myra Moore of Valdosta; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024 in the chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the funeral home.
