Kenneth “Sonny” Sanders, age 81, of Valdosta, GA passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Canopy at Azalea Grove in Valdosta. He was born on June 30, 1944, in Iron City, GA to the late Rube and Lucille (Crockett) Sanders. Kenneth moved to Valdosta in the 1960s to work with Jon Thorne Racing. He was an avid racer himself, competing on both asphalt and dirt tracks. Known as a true “jack of all trades,” Kenneth had a gift for fixing just about anything. He loved collecting arrowheads and old Indian artifacts, and he found joy in the simple things—riding his golf cart and counting planes as they passed overhead. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Sanders, sister, Martha Yearta and brother, Mike Sanders.
Survivors include his son, Chris Sanders (Kayla) of Lake Park, GA; grandchildren: Jayden Sanders, Kane Sanders, Andrew Dampier and Shelby Dampier; brother, Dave Sanders (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Fl; sister, Norma Rentz of Iron City, GA; brother, Thomas Sanders (Anita) of Webb, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2026 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with entombment to follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
