Kimberly Gail McDowell, 86, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Brooke, and son-in-law, Terry, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 2, 1938, in Asheville, North Carolina, to Walter MyKietyn and Virginia Hooks.
Kimberly attended school in Asheville and went on to earn both a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nutrition from the University of North Carolina. She dedicated her career to serving others as a Registered Nurse until her well-earned retirement.
In her earlier years, Kimberly had a deep passion for reading, traveling, and cherishing moments with her beloved cats. Her zest for life remained steadfast, even after she lost her eyesight.
In 1987, Kimberly married Charles McDowell and in 2001, they relocated to Valdosta, Georgia, where they made their home and continued to nurture their life together.
Kimberly's faith was at the center of her life. She loved the Lord and was a devoted member of the Lord’s Church. Above all else, she treasured her family, and they were the heart of her world.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Joan Lunsford; 2 children: Chad Pegg and Tina Dee Perkins.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Charles Lynwood McDowell of Valdosta, Georgia; children: Elisabeth Perkins of Mission, Texas, David McDonald of Corpus Christy, Texas, Scott McDonald (Sandy) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Lisa Webber (Bill) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Belinda Foote (Jerry) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jay Pegg of Sturges, South Dakota and Brooke McDonald (Terry) of Valdosta, Georgia; siblings: Deborah Owenby of Asheville, North Carolina, Diane Moore of Asheville, North Carolina and Gary Staak of Easley, South Carolina; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and the family will hold a service at a later date. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at www.musicfuneralservices.com .
