Larry Thomas Courtney – 72 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Monday March 2, 2020 in the South Georgia Medical Center – Valdosta Campus after a lengthy battle with his health. He went to be with the Lord in the presence of his beloved family. He was born on July 1, 1947 in Lafollette, Tennessee to the late John and Lois (Moore) Courtney. Larry was an army man, and a good soldier until the day he died. Larry was a highly decorated 32 year United States Army Veteran, who received 2 Purple Hearts, Silver Star & multiple conflict and service awards. Larry loved his Country, and was honored to serve. He was a family man & loved to spoil his wife, children and grandchildren. Larry also loved Disney World, with Mickey Mouse being his favorite character. He had a great sense of humor and loved visiting with his neighbors and other veterans. Along with his parents, he is followed in death by his siblings Gail Stallings, Selinda Courtney, and John Courtney.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 33 years Christine (Loveday) Courtney of Valdosta, GA; His 5 children: Tammy Case (John) of Macon GA, Charles Courtney of Philadelphia, PA,
Sandra Dee Bonadonna (John) of Las Vegas, Thomas Ischkum (Karen) of Schaumburg IL, Christopher Courtney of Valdosta GA;15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; His “baby dogs” Rocky & Oreo; Siblings: Pamela Testa of Carrollton GA, Becky Forbus of Carrollton GA,
and Randall Courtney of Bremen GA; and many nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 10, in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. Burial will follow on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 2:00PM, in The Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL, (Family Only). Larry was a selfless, giving man in life, and the family asks that generosity be continued in his death by making donations in his honor to The Humane Society of Valdosta (1740 W Gordon St #3017, Valdosta, GA 31601).
