Lavonne L. Davis passed away Friday April 19 at the age of 92 at the Fellowship Home. She was the youngest of 7 children born on October 1, 1931 to the late Daniel Lee Lyons and Hattie Hendrix Lyons. After graduating from Clyattville High, she began her career at Bell South as a switchboard operator downtown where she remained with the company through its merger with AT&T and retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Known to many as Granny, she was never more at peace than when she was by the water, spending many summers at Flagler until she and her husband were able to build their own home "from the pylons up" in Keaton Beach. A woman of style she loved shopping and could be seen on many a weekend driving her red Mustang down Madison Highway.
Later in life, she discovered a love of travel, even making the trip to Alaska with her companion Bill Clark. In the last years of her life, Lavonne returned to Valdosta to be closer to her adoring family.
She was truly a woman who left a mark on everyone she met. Even after her health began to fail, she could always find something to smile about. She found great enjoyment just by looking out her window at the squirrels and birds flying by. In the last weeks of her life, she took comfort in the knowledge of a life well lived, and with a network of loved ones by her side. Her warm smile and positive outlook will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas C. Davis Jr.; brothers and sisters: Jesse, Johnny, Floyce, Doris, Charlie, Pete; special friend, Bill Clark.
Lavonne is survived by her 3 sons: Thomas C. Davis III (Sandy) of Hahira, Daniel L. Davis (Charlene) of Valdosta, Michael C. Davis (Missy) of Valdosta; grandchildren: Erich Hense (Courtney) of Hampton, FL, Jaime Peters of Valdosta, Jennifer Huey (Curt) of Holly Springs, MS, Emily Embrey (Mark) of Spring, Texas, Danielle Davis of Statenville, Clayton Davis (Kaitlyn) of Hahira, Sarah Davis of Valdosta, J.T. Davis of Atlanta; great grandchildren: Brooks Embrey, Camryn Futch, Declan Hense, Ella Hense, Harlan Hense, and Apollo Hense.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Home; a burial to follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends to celebrate her life Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
