Of Valdosta, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Sunday February 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 26, 1930 in Nashville, Georgia to the late F. W. M. (Preacher) Shaw and Susie Ray Shaw. Lawanna was a veteran of the United States Air Force. She will be most remembered for being the loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that she was. Lawanna was an avid gardener, cook, and baker. She was an area sales manager for Tupperware for many years. Anyone who knew Lawanna knew she was very independent, and she was still driving just two weeks ago! Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Maples, Sr.; Son, Eddie Maples; and two brothers: Gerald Shaw and Otis Shaw.
Survivors include her 5 daughters: Debbie Maples of Clinton, MS, Connie M. Lightsey and husband Lee of Barney, GA, Sandy M. Morgan and husband Hershell of Clinton, MS, Sherie Maples of Valdosta, GA, Brenda M. Fowler and husband Greg of Hahira, GA; 10 grandchildren: Michelle, Melisa, Randy, Farrah, Dylan, Justin, Jimmy, Samantha, Eric, and Candice; 11 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Latrelle S. Chisholm of Lakeland, GA; Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2020 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. The family will be receiving friends Thursday from 1:00 until service time in the chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Maples family is being served by the professional and caring staff of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.
