Linda Chamberlin 55
Of Valdosta passed away Thursday Night, June 16, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Muncy, PA and had lived in Valdosta approximately 11 years. Dr. Chamberlin was an associate professor of biology at Valdosta State University where she joined the faculty in 1994. Trained as a microbiologist, she received her PhD from the University of New York at Buffalo, New York, in 1983; and her masters degree at Texas Tech University in 1975. She was a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the Southeastern Branch of the Society for Microbiology, the Georgia Academy of Science, and the National Science Teacher Association. While at Valdosta State University she taught microbiology and introductory biology courses and conducted research in environmental microbiology. In 2002, she received the Rod Nave Award for excellence in science teaching and in 2000 traveled to Syktyvkar, Russia as part of the International Exchange Program sponsored by the University System of Georgia. While in Syktyvkar, she taught microbiology and worked with the faculty of Syktyvkar State University on a variety of educationally based projects. During her career, she published 14 scientific papers and gave 25 presentations at professional meetings with colleagues and students that worked with her research the laboratory. She loved all animals especially her cats; Ms. Boo, Noel, Minx, and Jinx.

As per Ms. Chamberlins wishes she will be cremated and services will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 5323, Valdosta, Ga. 31603.
