Of Valdosta, GA passed away at the Langdale Hospice House on Thursday, March 17, 2016. She was born on March 29, 1947 in Crystal Falls, MI to the late William and Martha Puttonen Jarvi. Mrs. Smith was a retired educator having taught in various overseas Department of Defense Dependents Schools; Rutherford High School in Panama City, FL; Caribou Alternative High School and Caribou High School in Caribou, ME; and 1 year at Tri-County Alternative School, 6 years at Berrien Academy, and 10 years at Berrien County High School 8 years as Dept. Head in Nashville, Georgia. She was of the Lutheran faith and attended Messiah Lutheran Church. She had a love of travel, literature and history. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, retired CMSgt. Michael D. Smith, and a brother, William Jarvi.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Claire E. Power Lawrence Michael; a grandson, Nevan Power; a brother, Thomas Jarvi; and two nephews, Jericho Jarvi and Levi Jarvi, with their spouses and children.
Per Mrs. Smith's wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service, planned by the family, will be held at a later date. Sympathies may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com . Music Funeral Services, Valdosta, will be serving the Smith family.
