Linda S. White, 65, of Lakeland, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Born on May 11, 1961, in Sullivans Island, she was the beloved daughter of William O. White, Jr. and Joye Lynn (Brogdon) White.
Linda devoted her professional life to shaping and encouraging young minds through her work as a paraprofessional. She retired from the Lanier County Board of Education, where her compassion, dedication, and love for students made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Above all, Linda cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her life. She found happiness in the simple and meaningful moments — listening to her husband, Hugh, sing, taking relaxing beach trips, and enjoying peaceful days at home surrounded by those she loved. One of her favorite traditions each year was attending the Super Bowl party hosted by her dear friend Mary. Their friendship was a special bond, and together they affectionately called themselves “Thelma and Louise.”
Along with her mother, she is preceded in death by her son, Mason Fender and her brother, David White.
She is survived by her father, William “Bill” O. White, Jr. (Kacy) of Lake Park, Georgia; her husband, Hugh Gay of Lakeland, Georgia; grandchildren: Christian Fender, Caleb Fender and Bella Fender; brother, John White (Chasity) of Lakeland, Georgia; sister, Monica Beseker (Dave) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; sister, Peggy Arnold (Larry) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; special friend, Mary Stewart (Brent) of Thomasville, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
