Lloyd Irvin Barrow-84
of Lakeland, GA passed away on September 29, 2016. He was born on March 18, 1932 to Irvin & Jessie Barrow. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Lloyd Barrow, 3 brothers, Freeman, Walter, Pratt and 2 sisters, Katie Lee and Alice Mae.
Lloyd was born in Glennville, GA and was one of 7 children. He was 6 years old when the family moved to Miami, FL where at the age of 14 he met his beloved wife, Virginia, who was also 14 years old. Four years later, they eloped on Christmas Day in 1950 and were married 66 years.
Lloyd worked most of his early years as a truck driver and later retired as the head maintenance supervisor of Water Oaks Community in Leesburg, FL. He was a self -taught carpenter, builder that built his first home in Hialeah, FL. He ran a small cattle & pig farm which he purchased in 1980 in Lady Lake, FL. He found joy in raising his two children, building & creating for his family, he loved deep sea fishing, camping in their R.V., traveling, and listening to Bluegrass music & old classic Honky Tonk tunes. He also loved to watch old westerns & wrestling on t.v.
He was a loving, kind, & devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His laugh, his smile, his blue eyes and warm hugs will be forever missed.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Virginia Lee Barrow, one daughter, Mindy Sportsman and husband, Dan Sportsman, daughter-in-law, Kathy Barrow; Sisters, Mary Darby & Dotty Christmas; two grandchildren, Santannah & Cheland Sportsman; and countless nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Cherry Lake Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherry Lake, Florida. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 11:00A.M. until 12:00P.M. at the Lakeland funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed online at
