Lou Nelle Lightsey

Lou Nelle Thomas Lightsey, age 97, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026. She was born to loving parents Debbie Grimes Nash and Eddie Clements Nash on May 19, 1929, in Nashville, GA.

Lou Nelle found joy in the simple things in life. She loved spending time tending to her beautiful flower garden, enjoying the peacefulness of fishing, and, most of all, being surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. A devoted homemaker, Lou Nelle poured her heart into caring for her home and family, creating a warm and loving home filled with cherished memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Maurice Thomas Sr. and Luther Lamar Lightsey; sons, Eddie Thomas, Ted Thomas and Reece Thomas; grandchildren, Jessica Thomas, Stephanie Thomas, Scott Thomas and Jamie Thomas.

Lou Nelle is survived by her daughters, Edwina Hiers of Valdosta, Becky Webb (Franklin) of Lake Park, Julia Brown of Valdosta and son Earl Thomas (Johanna) of Valdosta; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. Visitation will be the night prior from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
