Lowell Thomas Brown, age 83, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed this life on September 5, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Panama City, Florida on December 30, 1937 to Lee Barrett and Georgia Davis Brown. He married the love of his life Barbara Ann Abbott Brown on Sept 7, 1957 and their love endured for 64 years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta for many years. He was a member of Benny Olliff and Kent Moore Sunday School Class.
Lowell was a bluegrass musician and taught many young people to play the guitar. Mr. Brown was a descendant of one the pioneer families of Bay County, Florida, as recognized by the Bay County Genealogical Society. There were five generations of musicians in his family. He taught his children and grandchildren to play and music was an integral part of the family life. He was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
He was a story teller extraordinaire. He was a kind and patient man who was loved by so many. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wayne Brown, David Brown and Dwight “Potter” Brown.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Abbott Brown, daughter Twinkx Thompson and husband Ed of Panama City, Florida, daughter Lisa LeGette and husband Jim of Belleville, Florida and son Bart and wife Jill Brown of Valdosta, Georgia; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother Gerald Brown of Rockland, California, sister Brenda Saunders of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and sister Janice McDonald and husband Donnie of Panama City, FL., along with many nieces and nephews.
He was retired from NCR & AT & T. He transferred from Panama City, Florida to Valdosta, Georgia in 1977. He was a volunteer fireman in Panama City. He was past master of Parker Masonic Lodge # 142.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 9, 2021 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at a later time at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City, Florida.
