Major William Meredith (Bill) Brown (U.S. Air Force, Retired), veteran of the Vietnam War and Valdosta business man, has died at the age of 91, after a rich life, filled with love, luck, and adventure. Bill was born October 6, 1932, in Washburn, Illinois to Charles and Margaret Brown. His family relocated in the 1950s to Sanford, Florida, where attended college and joined the U.S. Air Force.
After retirement from the United States Air Force, he finished a business degree and opened Valdosta Music and Teaching Studio. While managing the music store, he trained to be a piano tuner and tuned pianos into his late 80s.
He was a proud member of the P.O.E.T.S. club and received awards in the Toastmaster Club. He was one of the founding members of the South Georgia Kidney Association, recruiting donors to the cause.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Stone Brown of Hahira; his children, Cindy Best (Tom) of Melbourne, Florida, Bill Brown, Jr. (Debra) of Valdosta, and Dotty Davis (Robby) of Cataula, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Angela Brown (Michael) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and stepchildren, Melvin C. Stone (Sue) of Lake Park, Georgia, Elise Russell of Vestavia, Alabama, Gladys Isbell (Michael) Pelham, Alabama, Lorri Johnson (David) of Pell City, Alabama, Andrew Stone of Tallahassee, Florida and Amy Stefanic (Matt) of South Carolina; his 10 grandchildren, and his 18 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Herrin Brown; and his youngest son, Michael Brown of Raleigh, North Carolina; step-daughter, Katherine Yeomans of Lakeland, Georgia; his parents; his brother, Bus Brown (Anita) of Sanford, Florida; and his sister, Joyce Dean (Lowell) of Gainesville, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the funeral home.
