Marcus Aubrey Rowan (1938-2024)
Marcus “Mark” Aubrey Rowan, 85, of Lakeland, GA, died peacefully at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, GA, on May 29th.
He was born in Cook County, GA, in 1938 to the late William Jessie Rowan, Sr. and Irene Lott Rowan. He grew up in the New River community outside of Lenox, GA. Following his school years, he worked various jobs in Georgia and Florida, including building pools, operating a service station, driving a truck, and hanging sheetrock. He often shared stories about his experiences working in Daytona Beach, Florida, especially when pouring concrete at the Daytona International Speedway. Once he returned to the Valdosta area, he met the love of his life, Freida Warren Rowan, and settled in Lakeland. He retired from Bayliner Marine in Valdosta after 20 years of service.
Marcus, known as Mark or Aubrey, was a masterful woodworker and furniture maker. His creations, crafted with love and precision, adorned the homes of his family and friends. His green thumb was evident in his lush garden, where he nurtured a variety of flowers and vegetables. Marcus was a man of few words, but his stories and jokes always brought laughter. His deep faith and love for his wife and family were unwavering. He was a devoted member of Beulah Holiness Baptist Church in Adel.
Along with his parents, Marcus is preceded in death by his wife, Freida Rowan, his son, Marcus Allen Rowan, his grandson, Joshua Dale Rowan, and his siblings, W.J. Rowan, Jr., Jane Griner, and Doris McSween. He is survived by his son, Steven Rowan (Debbie) of Interlachen, FL., Daughter Virginia Gibbons (David) of Weirsdale, FL., son Gerald Rowan of Weirsdale, FL., son Ferrell Warren (Barry) of Cuenca, Ecuador, and son Eric Rowan (Crystal) of Lakeland, GA.
Marcus had a huge heart for his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With many of his grandchildren living in different states, he cherished his times with them dearly. His surviving grandchildren include David Allen Gibbons (Holly), John Gibbons (Trish), Michael Gibbons, Kimberly Pollinger (Daniel), Kacy Rowan, Amanda Albach (Jordan), Steven Rowan, Julie Johns, Megan Rowan, Adam Rowan, Adrianne Rowan, Caleb Rowan, Abigail Rowan, and Sarah Beth Rowan. He was also the proud papa to 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Lakeland, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland, A visitation will be held, Friday, May 31, 2024, from 5PM-7PM at Music Funeral Services, Lakeland, Georgia.
