Margaret Louise Conner – 104
Of Lakeland, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at SGMC-Lakeland Villa. Born on September 13, 1920, in Ideal, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late William Allen Chapman and Eunice (Perry) Chapman.
Margaret was an active, dedicated and oldest member of the Lakeland Methodist Church, where she not only taught an Adult Sunday School Class but also served as a past president of the United Methodist Women. Her contributions to the church community earned her the heartfelt title of “The Quiet Disciple.” She was a cherished member of the Susannah Wesley Circle, and she generously opened her home for many years to host gatherings for the prayer shawl ministry, fostering a spirit of connection and care.
After many years of devoted service, Margaret retired as the Food Service Manager for the Lanier County Primary School’s Nutrition Department, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of countless children.
Known for her love of butterflies, she could often be seen wearing a butterfly pin on her shoulder, a symbol of her vibrant spirit. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, reading, and traveling, filling her life with creativity and adventure.
Her legacy of faith, service, and love will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Arlington Conner; two sons: Bill Conner and James Conner; three sisters: Martha Rose Wildes, Emily Herrin and Camilla McCook; two brothers: Roswell Chapman and Joe Chapman.
Survivors include her two daughters: Linda Conner Bruce (Jimmy) of Lakeland, Georgia, Patty Conner Vanover (Mark) of Duluth, Georgia; grandchildren: Terry Bruce Sikes (Mike), Ben Bruce (Kim), Ginger Conner Griffis (Paul), Joie Conner (Heather), Daryll Vanover (Fiancé Amy Collins); great grandchildren: Patrick Outler (Michaela), Allyson Outler Price (Chrystian), Jonathon Bruce (Jessica), Aaron Bruce (Emily), Kari Griffis Maddox (Samuel), Laura Griffis; great-great grandchildren: Cooper, Reese, Jonah, Atlas, Stella, Sebastian, River, Eli, Tristan, Jacob; numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Lakeland Methodist Church with Pastor Austin Deloach and Pastor Larry Hauser officiating. The burial will follow the service in Burnt Church Cemetery, Lakeland, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the church. The family is accepting flowers, or a donation may be made in memory of Margaret Louise Conner to the Lakeland Methodist Church Ladies or the Prayer Shawl Ministry, P.O.
