Marion Jo Goodson Taylor Stephenson, 89, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at her home.
She was born on February 28,1935, in Valdosta. Her parents were the late Sam Dean Goodson, Sr. and Ethel Viola Jacobs Goodson. She was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from Valdosta High School. She was a member of the Lake Park Christan Church, the Senior Citizens Center and the “Happy Travelers” Travel Group. She enjoyed many trips with the Travel Group. During her business career she worked at: The Dosta Theater, The Famous Store, the Goodyear Service Store, and retired from The First Union National Bank after 24 years of service. After retiring, she had more time to travel and went on several cruises. One of the most enjoyable was going to Hawaii where she visited all the islands. She also went to Alaska, Canada and the Panama Canal.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law: Marilyn & Tom Cosby, Jr. of Valdosta, Georgia; grandsons: Ryan Taylor of Miami, Florida, Brad & Chelsie Cosby of Cairo, Georgia; granddaughters: Lindsay & Don McCardle of Quincy, Florida, Lara Cosby of Valdosta, Georgia; one great granddaughter: Peyton Cosby of Cairo, Georgia; two great grandsons: Lane Cosby of Valdosta, Georgia and Canon Cosby of Cairo, Georgia; sister & brother-in-law, Linda and Richard Wicker of Americus, Georgia; sisters-in-law: Julianna Goodson of Marietta, Georgia, Peggy Goodson of Athens, Georgia; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam D. Goodson, Sr. of Valdosta, Georgia; her son & daughter-in-law, Richard C. Taylor & Sheryl Cook Taylor of Tallahassee, Florida; her first husband of forty-six years and the father of her children, W.M. (Dick) Taylor of Valdosta, Georgia and her second husband, Vernon D. Stephenson of Lake Park, Georgia; sisters: Mary Alice Johnson, Margaret Turner, and Mattie Szymanski all of Valdosta, Georgia, brothers: Sam D. Goodson, Jr. of Valdosta ,Georgia, Gene C. Goodson, Sr. of Palatka, Florida, Jerry Goodson of Marietta, Georgia and Richard Goodson, Sr. of Athens, Georgia; sister-in-law, Delores Goodson of Palatka, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with Rev. Jeremy Wicker officiating. The graveside service will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the funeral home.
