Marion B. Keen of Valdosta passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Fellowship Home. He was 91 years old.
Marion was born on June 4, 1922 in Elizabeth, Indiana to the late Lydia Lamb Keen and Stanley Keen. He spent his childhood years in Indianapolis, graduating from Arsenal Tech High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Coast Artillery and served during World War II in the Admiralty Islands as a searchlight operator. Upon his return Marion married his childhood sweetheart, Paula Elizabeth Harbin, at Englewood Christian Church, Indianapolis, on June 30, 1946. They were married for 67 years.
Marion worked as a purchasing agent and manager at U.S. Envelope/Westvaco for 46 years. He was a charter member of Southport Heights Christian Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer. He was active in the Indianapolis Travel Club, Delta Nu, and was a Freemason all of his adult life. In his retirement Marion enjoyed volunteering at the Valdosta Veteran's Clinic and volunteering as a Red Coat for the South Georgia Medical Center. He attended First Baptist Church for over 30 years.
Marion is survived by his son Michael and his wife Catherine Chell Keen with their children Ryan and Robyn; his daughter Lisa Keen Mills and her husband David with their children Jacob and Sophia; his daughter-in-law Ellen Gitomer with her children Audrey Querns Lovre and Moira Querns Marsden along with four great grandchildren; his brother-in-law Ken Harbin of Valdosta; his sister-in-law Beverly Harbin of Atlanta; his sister Barbara Hall and her husband Clark of Akron, Ohio; his sister Joan Neeley of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister Mary Foutty; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Don and his wife Paula.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening Friday, January 24, 2014 at Music Funeral Services on North Valdosta Road. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Saturday, January 25 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Home at Brookside, 470 Fellowship Home Lane, Valdosta, GA 31602.
