Mary Elizabeth (Yarbrough) Register – 92 of Valdosta passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at her residence. She was born on April 16, 1926 in Berrien County, GA to the late James & Texas (Futch) Yarbrough. She was a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church and the Women of Faith Sunday School Class. She was part of the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN which was a top secret operation that produced the first atomic bomb and although a very controversial subject it gained victory for America in World War II. The young women involved in this project became known as “The Girls of Atomic City.” She retired from Crackin’ Good Bakery. She loved crocheting, quilting and gardening, all which she shared with her family and friends. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Register, son, Grant Register and 2 brothers, Futch Yarbrough & David Yarbrough.
Survivors Include: 2 Daughters & Son-in-law: Linda and Irvin Green, Valdosta, Sharon Gillard, Huntsville, AL; Son and Daughter-in-law: Glyndon and Kathy Register, Lakeland; Daughter-in-law; Becky Register, Lakeland; 7 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 24, 2018 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Empire Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening, May 23, 2018 at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed online at
