Mary Ellen Pierce Royal
After years of declining health Mary Ellen Pierce Royal, 80, passed away at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia on August 6, 2011. Mrs. Royal was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pierce, who were also lifelong residents of Lanier County. Mary Ellen was known for her compassion for her country and community standing up for the rights of her fellow man when no one else would. Her joy in life was her family and making them happy. She accomplished this with her many talents which included cooking, sewing, poetry and music. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Harmon Royal, daughter, Claire Dollar of Valdosta, son, Bo Royal of Lakeland, and granddaughter, Bethany Dollar of Valdosta. She was a member of Unity Methodist Church in Lakeland, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Clara Lee and Iris Myers, and son-in-law, Larry Dollar. Even though failing health could not be overcome, the voice she had and the difference she made will be remembered by all. Per her wishes, Mrs. Royal was cremated.
