Mary Susan Taylor Simpson

February 5, 1929 — May 27, 2018

Mary Susan Taylor Simpson, 89 of Las Vegas, NM, passed Sunday, May 27, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lakeland, GA February 5,1929 to the late John Wesley Taylor and Franklin Adelaide Williams Taylor. She graduated Valedictorian from Lanier County High School in 1946. Mary Sue moved to Jacksonville, FL soon afterward and attended Jones Business College. She married Arlon Lee Simpson in 1952. The couple lived in New Jersey, Brooklyn, New York and New Orleans, Louisiana before coming back home to Lakeland. Mary Sue was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeland. Her love of her community involved memberships in the Lakeland Historical So-ciety (President), the Red Hat Society, and the Georgia Power Ambassa-dors. She was a member of the Las Vegas Opera Guild, Philanthropic Educational Organization, and Las Vegas Senior Citizens. She moved to Miami, FL for several years after she retired from the Georgia Power Company, and then spent her last 12 years in Las Vegas, NM. She pas-sionately loved to travel with her family and friends; and she visited Eu-rope several times, the Holy Land, and destinations throughout the US.

Mary Sue is survived by her daughters Melinee (husband Robert Fer-nandez) of Miami, FL and Adelaide (Stephen Weatherburn) of Las Ve-gas, NM, her beloved five grandchildren Cristina Fernandez of New York City, NY, Megan Fernandez of Miami, FL, Carolina Fernandez of Miami, FL, John “Jack” Linzie of Las Vegas, NM, William Linzie of Las Vegas, NM, sister-in-laws, Cathy Taylor (James) of Valdosta and Wylodine Lewis of Decatur, Georgia, special nieces and nephews. In ad-dition to her parents, Mary Sue is preceded in death by her husband Ar-lon Lee Simpson, her beloved daughter, Susan Lea Simpson, and brother James Wesley Taylor.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Lakeland, GA. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the services. The Simpson family is being cared for by the caring and professional staff of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.
