Mattie Lou Croft, age 84, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Croft was born August 20, 1937 in Colquitt, Georgia to the late Anna Adelle Shiver Sumner and Thomas Harvey Sumner. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who spent her life caring for others. Mrs. Croft was very active in her church, Park Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, and made her career as director of the church daycare center, “Kiddie Korral”, where she spent 33 years caring for the children of her community. She also enjoyed canning vegetables, making jellies, cooking and sewing for her family as well as caring for her plants and doing embroidery. Along with her parents, Mrs. Croft was preceded in death by a daughter, Tena Louise Croft Forrest; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Patty Sumner; and a brother-in-law, Homer Yates.
Mrs. Croft leaves behind a loving husband of 64 years, Simon Croft of Valdosta, Georgia; a daughter, Brenda Croft McConville and husband Robert of Adel, Georgia; a son, Patrick Croft of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren: James, Jessica, Grace, Samuel, Carmen, Brian, Michael and also seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Sumner Yates, of Quitman, Georgia; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Sunday, August 14, 2022, in the Park Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2285 East Park Avenue, Valdosta, Georgia 31601 with burial to follow at the Hickory Grove Cemetery 6214 George Road, Lake Park, Georgia 31636. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Music Funeral Services, 3831 North Valdosta Road, Valdosta, Georgia.
