Mattie Lou Hodges Herring

Mattie Lou Hodges Herring, age 82, of Hahira, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was born on March 28, 1943, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Floyd Noles and Laura Hall Hawkins.

She was a devoted customer service representative at Barnes Drug Store, where she faithfully served the community for many years. Known for her warm smile and caring spirit, she found great joy in spending time with others. She loved dancing at the Valdosta Senior Center and the Quitman Jamboree, where music and laughter filled her heart. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed shopping, shooting pool, and cooking delicious meals for family and friends sharing her love in the simple pleasures of life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husbands, Billy Hodges and Lowell Herring; children, Eddie Hodges and Ricky Todd Hodges; siblings, Ben Noles, Pete Butler (Tom), Ann Pruitt, and Alice Hawkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Carter of Hahira, GA; step children: Derek Herring (Dana) of Lake Park, GA, Pat Herring (Jennie) of Lake Park, GA, and Tina Tucker (Kirby) of Hahira, GA; grandchildren, Chris Sherman (Andrea), Casey Hodges (April), Jada Hodges, Billy Hodges, Shane Hodges, Natasha Miley (Chase), Andrew Hodges, Kaylee Hodges, Candice Carter and Rick Carter; great grandchildren, Christian Sherman, Nichole Sherman and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Pineview Baptist Church, 5925 Snake Nation Rd, Hahira, GA 31632.
