Michael Bourgoin- 68
Of Hahira, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024, after a 4-month battle with cancer with the care and support of his family. He was born to the late Jeannette and Raymond Bourgoin on June 23, 1956, in Hartford, Connecticut. Michael was the oldest of five children and lived a life marked by a passion for service and a love for aviation. In 1980, he realized his dream of becoming a pilot and spent over 40 years as a traffic reporter over Hartford, Connecticut, becoming a familiar voice in the skies. His dedication to his community extended far beyond his time as a pilot. In October 2020, Michael transitioned into a new role as the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity in Valdosta, Georgia. He often expressed how much he cherished the work he did in this capacity, and he spoke fondly of the many wonderful people he collaborated with over the years. His commitment to improving the lives of others reflected his deep values of service and kindness. Michael was also a devoted animal lover, particularly of his golden retrievers, Ben and Oliver, who brought joy and companionship to his life. In addition to his professional pursuits, Michael was an active member of several local organizations, including the Red-Carpet Committee, the Airport Authority, and Rotary. His involvement in these groups further highlighted his dedication to making a positive impact on his community. Michael’s life was one of service, love, and connection, leaving a legacy of kindness and dedication to the people and causes he cared about. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Bourgoin.
Survivors include his sister, Nancy Wontka (Andrew); brothers: Steven Bourgoin (Cheryl) and John Bourgoin (fiancé, Kellie Wagner); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members; former wife, Yvonne Bourgoin and her son, Gian Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity (Valdostahabitat.org) or Georgia Hospice Care through their 501(C)(3) organization, The Carnation Foundation (Carnationfoundation.org.)
