Myrtle Lee Browning

March 23, 1930 — July 29, 2008

Of Lakeland, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 23, 1930 in Lacota, Florida to the late Dexter Holly & Irene Cannington Holly. Due to hardships after divorce her mother Irene moved to Florida to work in the cigar factories. Myrtle, her sister Ruth and brother Clifford stayed in Lanier County and were raised by their Grandparents, Oscar and Nancy Cannington. They owned and operated the Cannington's General Store that was located across the road from the home place she resided at until her death. It was here at the store that she met the love of her life, Candler Browning. She was only 15 but he was home from the war and they met and fell in love and were married on her 16th birthday, March 23, 1946. They were married for 58 years and raised 6 children. She was a homemaker for many years, helping on the farm. She then worked as a seamstress in several sewing factories. Later she went to work for the Lanier County School System in the Lunch Room where she enjoyed cooking and interacting with the children until her retirement. She has been a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1962. She is preceded in death by her husband, Candler Browning; Son, Robert Browning; Brother, Clifford Holly; Sister, Ruth Hunter and Daughter-In-Law, Debbie H. Browning.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at Southside Baptist Church with burial following in Fender Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. Flowers accepted but donations may be made to the church or your choice.
