Naomi Courson Howard

January 2, 1944 — May 26, 2024

Naomi Courson Howard, 80 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. Naomi was born on January 2, 1944, to Alec and Ida Courson. She always had time to spend with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed exploring, doing art projects, and reading stories and poems. Naomi loved to go shopping and getting out to see things and people. She had a passion for animals and spent many years rescuing animals that were lost, sick, or homeless. She loved working in her garden and seeing what grew. “I was a happy young child with strong legs, a sharp stick, and an old dog at my side. I became a young woman looking for adventure and someone to share it. I found someone and we made others to be with us. Then a time of work and building, laughter, tears, learning and growing always changing until the ones we made grew into their own lives and left. Then a time of indulgence and seeking. What’s next? After buying and going and collecting stuff I finally found home was the best place for me but now it is cluttered with a lifetime of stuff I don’t want anymore. I am tired of cleaning it. I am old and want a simple life, no cooking, no floors to clean. No pain when I walk. I find myself longing for young strong legs, a sharp stick, and an old dog to be at my side.” Naomi is preceded in death by her husband Billy Howard.
She is survived by her son, Darry (Anita) Howard of Valdosta; daughter, Tamis (Sara Crum) Fuller of Valdosta; son, Jeff (Lori) Howard of Valdosta; daughter, Leah (Rusty Perry) Morris of Warner Robins, GA; son, Josh (Laura) Howard of Valdosta; daughter, Hope Howard Brooks of Valdosta, and daughter, Holly Stuart of Marietta, GA; brother Lamar Courson of Valdosta, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
