Of Lake Park, Georgia passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House. She was born to the late James Arthur Barfield and Emmer Lee Mosely on December 4, 1937, in Lyons, Georgia. Othalene had an unwavering love for music and singing, always finding joy in expressing herself through melody. Above all, she cherished her faith in God, placing Him at the center of everything she did. She delighted in simple pleasures, such as savoring a plate of crispy, golden catfish, which was one of her favorite meals. She loved to go food shopping. Her dream, as a child, was to one day perform on the legendary stage of the Grand Ole Opry, where her love for music could shine in the spotlight. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul Woodrow Carter, Sr who was also a Korean War Veteran; daughter, Anita Carter; sister, Mary Notaro; brothers: Eschol Barfield, Mayo Barfield, and JB Barfield. Survivors include her son Paul Carter Jr. (Carol) of Vero Beach, Florida; daughter, Althea Parker (Robert) of Boston, Georgia; son, James Carter (Candy) of Vero Beach, Florida; daughter, Teresa Stults (Jerry) of Ormand Beach, Florida; daughter, Suzanne Carter of Lake Park, Georgia; 20 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members; special friends: Connie, Joann, Bonita who were referred to as the “Golden Girls” and always went to eat at Golden Corral. Special friends, Becky and her mom.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at About My Fathers Ministry in Valdosta, Georgia with burial to follow in San Pedro Cemetery, 9231 Southwest County Road 14, Madison, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.
