Paul Raymond Johnson

Paul Raymond Johnson, age 85, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Big Bend Hospice. He was born on February 4, 1939, in Clintwood, Virginia to the late Lawrence and Myrtle (Phipps) Johnson.
Paul had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed the soulful sounds of bluegrass music. In his younger years, he was a skilled ping pong player, always up for a friendly match. As a proud Master Mason, he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, finding camaraderie and purpose within the brotherhood.
His professional life was rooted in service, with a significant portion of his career dedicated to firefighting. Paul served at Moody Air Force Base as a firefighter, where he made a lasting impact before advancing to Fire Chief of the Lowndes County Fire Department. His leadership and dedication to protecting his community were integral to his identity. Later, he contributed his talents in the maintenance department at South Georgia Medical Center, always focused on keeping things running smoothly and efficiently.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, David Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Delories Johnson of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Robin Lee (Tracy) of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Megan Stefanowitz (Alex), Paige Hofheinz (Cason), Candace Palmer (Wayne), Kasey Casey (Clint), Cole Bennett (Emily), Caleb Scott (Camille); great grandchildren: Michael Hofheinz, Claire Palmer, Skylar Palmer, Isabella Casey, and Vivian Casey; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all the caretakers at Villas at Killearn Lakes for being their rock during this time and being a part of their family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, Florida 32308 or online bigbendhospice.org.
