Raymond John Vanek, Sr. – 74
Of Valdosta passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in New York City, NY on September 28, 1933 to late Frank and Josephine Sloboda Vanek. He began his service to his country by joining the United States Navy in 1951 where he served for 20 years. Following his retirement he resided in Chula Vista, CA. In 1980 he moved to Vermont where he was a volunteer firefighter; then in 1988 he relocated to Hayesville, NC where he enjoyed his retirement years. In 1999 he married his current wife, after dating for six years. He loved camping, cooking, being outdoors, dart tournaments, bowling, German Shepherds, grilling out, his swimming pool and hot tub. He loved to entertain people at his home. In the last few months his family moved him to Valdosta, GA so that they could take care of him. He passed away peacefully at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by his family and friends.
Survivors Include: wife, Barbara Vanek, Valdosta, GA, daughters, Deb Vanek Barbie, Orlando, FL, Patricia Stimson Dwight, Plymouth, MA, Son, Raymond J. Vanek Jr. Ronda & Leni, Valdosta, Ga, step daughter, Deb New, Winter Garden, Fl, step sons, David Cameron, Tennessee, Russell Cameron, Tennessee, Charles Chico Cameron, Murphy, NC, sister, Jan Romans, Murphy, NC, 10 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, many cousins, several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Valdosta Fire Department #2, 1350 East Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA. 31602.
