Retired MSgt. Charles Gibbs, Sr. – 80

Of Ray City passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on December 13, 1931 in Coolville, OH to the late Harry Albert & Freda Rae Owens Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was affiliated with New Bethel Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force for more than 22 years and retired as an MSgt. After retiring from the United States Air Force he joined the Shoney's team and served as a manager in Valdosta, Fitzgerald and Moultrie. He later worked with the Georgia Department of Corrections for over 20 years where he retired. He also served in the Lowndes County Sheriff's Auxiliary for many years.

Mr. Gibbs is survived by his, Wife of 57 years, Christell Gibbs, Ray City, GA; Daughters & Sons-in-law, Mary Ann Watson & Bob Krause, Winter Haven, FL, Robin & Andy Ward, Hahira, GA; Sons, Charles "Ray" Gibbs, Jr., Ray City, GA, Chad Gibbs, Ray City, GA; 6 Grandchildren: Shannon Moore Rancho, Candice Byrd Jason, Jarrod Watson, Kristopher Ward, Kyle Ward Katie, and Jessie Gibbs; 9 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters & Brothers-in-law, Ginny & Robert Moore, Torch, OH, Nancy & Bill Bobo, Coolville, OH; Brother & Sister-in-law, Bob & Doris Gibbs, Reidsville, OH; A number of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Cat Creek Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 6, 2012 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to New Bethel Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 5206 New Bethel Road, Valdosta, GA 31605.
