Rhonda Karen McQuitty, affectionately known as “RK”, age 71, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away unexpectantly at her residence on Friday, October 25, 2024, following a sudden illness. Although she was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 21, 1953, she spent her early life in Vidalia, Georgia. After graduating from Vidalia High School in 1971, she began a long and fulfilling career with Southern Bell, which later became AT&T. She retired after 34 years of service to focus on her hobbies and community activities.
RK had a kindness, warmth, and zest for life unlike any other. She lived a blessed life which was truly exemplified by her generosity in her actions and words. She believed in being a “doer” especially when it came to serving the Lord. A devoted member of Roswell First Baptist Church, RK's faith and community involvement were central to her life. She especially enjoyed playing the handbells and singing in the choir.
Known for years for her vibrant spirit and passion for sports, particularly her remarkable talent in tennis, she was a member of the ALTA. She won several Atlanta tournaments in singles and doubles and later shared her talent by teaching tennis through Alpha Tennis. Recently, she had discovered a newfound love for pickleball, enjoying the camaraderie and fun of the game.
Rhonda also had a love of animals. She thoroughly enjoyed the companionship and entertainment of her small pets, especially her late and beloved “Waldo”, who was trained as a therapy dog and made special residential visits with her for many years before his death.
RK leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit. Her humor, smile, and authenticity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father Jack McQuitty, mother Christine McQuitty Evans, and stepfather Gene Evans.
Survivors include her brother Kyle (Wanda) McQuitty of Valdosta, GA; her nieces Kasey McQuitty Renfrow (Jordan) of Cheyenne, WY and Samantha McQuitty of Valdosta, GA. and many beloved cousins, neighbors and friends. She also leaves behind her loving fur-baby “Zoey”.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at Roswell First Baptist Church in Roswell on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A burial with a graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 3:00 PM. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at
