Richard "Ricky" Earl Bass – 70
Of Statenville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on August 17, 1954, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late James Earl Bass and Lillian (Deloach) Barfield.
Ricky dedicated many years of service as a mechanic at Valdosta State University, where he was well-respected for his skills and work ethic. A true outdoorsman, he was known for his love of working in the yard. His family referred to him as a “Workaholic”.
In his downtime, Ricky had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was a fan of classic “Westerns,” with Gunsmoke being a particular favorite. His love of sports also ran deep, especially when it came to watching football and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. Ricky enjoyed the thrill of finding treasures at flea markets and yard sales.
Above all, Ricky was a devoted family man. He cherished the time spent with his loved ones and was known for his kindness, loyalty, and his ability to bring people together. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for those he held dear.
Ricky will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Jack Barfield; his sister-in-law, Jo Bass and his brother-in-law, Wayne Barfield.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Teresa Bass of Statenville, Georgia; daughter, Michelle Copeland (Burt) of Dasher, Georgia; son, Charles L. Hutto III of Valdosta, Georgia; daughter, Brooke Wrye (Daniel) of Statenville, Georgia; grandchildren: Erin Swilley (Dalton), Emmy Copeland, Grant Copeland, Evan Copeland, Liam Hutto, Lila Hutto, Brysen Wrye and Sophia Wrye; great grandchildren, Callan Swilley; sister, Gwen Hammock (Alvin) of Pinetta, Florida; mother, Lillian Deloach Barfield of Valdosta, Georgia; brother, Keith Bass (Sissie) of Valdosta, Georgia; brother, Darryl Bass of Statenville, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adreion and Nina Harrison of Millwood, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024 in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with Pastor Tyler Carter, Pastor Buck Crumley, Pastor Scott Smith and Pastor Adreion Harrison officiating. The burial will follow the service in Statenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the funeral home.
