Richard Mathis Fatzinger passed away under the care of Colquitt Regional Hospice, Moultrie, GA on Sunday, October 13, 2019 after a prolonged illness. He was 67 years old. Born in Riverside, CA on January 24, 1952, he was the son of a career Air Force Pilot and lived all over the world including the South Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Air Force bases in the United States. A favorite residence was Ankara, Turkey which afforded Richard the opportunity to explore the many ancient ruins of the region. Having a lifelong passion for history, Richard dedicated much time and effort to the search for Indian artifacts amassing an impressive collection of arrowheads during his lifetime.
After completion of high school and some college credits, Richard entered the Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam.
Richard was predeceased by his mother, Lucille Mathis Fatzinger, in 1974 and his father, Lt. Colonel Charles W. Fatzinger Jr., in 2006. He is survived by an older brother, Charles (Donna) Farringer, who resides in upstate New York, as well as a nephew, Chad, and a niece, Jenna. Over the past 10 years, he was cared for by Ms. Angela Edwards of Valdosta, GA.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 18, 2019 in the Riverview Memorial Gardens where military honors will be rendered. Richard has no family locally, so anyone wishing to help pay tribute to his service for our country can meet at the cemetery on Friday by 1:45 PM. Sympathy may be expressed online at
