Of Lakeland passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in Brooks County, Ga on October 24, 1926 to the late Rubin and Maggie Mills West. He was raised in Ray City and lived in Lakeland for most of his life. In 1956 he joined the United States Army and served his country for nearly 17 years. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Grace Harnage West. He worked in the Grounds Maintenance department at Moody Air Force Base. He enjoyed spending time with family and his 2 dogs, Sam and Prissy. When not at home with family he usually could be found sitting on the bench outside of the local Harvey's speaking to everyone that walked in. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace West and 3 sisters, Frances Mills, Mildred Carter and Louise Hannon.
Survivors Include: Daughter and Son-in-law, Melba & Ray Clark; 2 Sons & Daughters-in-laws, Glenn & Michelle West, Carl and Lavida West all of Lakeland, 10 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren; Brother & Sister-in-law, James & Ruby West, Jacksonville, FL and a number of nieces and nephews
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow at Beaver Dam Cemetery.
