Ricky James "Rick" Paffhausen, age 58, of Three Rivers, formerly of Battle Creek, died Wednesday morning, November 12, 2008, at Battle Creek Health System.
Rick was born on May 27, 1950 in Kalamazoo, MI and was the son of James J. and Audrey Ellis Paffhausen. He was a graduate of Central High School of Jacksonville, FL. Rick was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and served his country as a SP4 Corpsman from 1969 thru 1972.
He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/DCV 60. Rick was employed at Lasco Industries as a Supervisor from 1975 to 1986 and retired this year, from the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Battle Creek-Food Services after 22 years of faithful service. He was a lover of music and listened constantly to "Old Time Rock and Roll!"
Rick is survived by his two daughters: Audra S. Paffhausen and Shelly Yates-both of Three Rivers; his son: Richard J. Paffhausen of Three Rivers; two grandsons: Damian J. and Lane E. Esarey; his longtime companion: Carol "Sue" Keller of Three Rivers; his father: James J. Paffhausen of Valdosta, GA; his sister: Judy F. Rhodes of Three Rivers; an uncle: Stanley Ellis of Lansing, MI and two nephews: Joseph Sutherland of Elizabethtown, KY and Richard Sutherland of Boston, MA. He was preceded in death by his mother: Audrey and his sister: Kathy Bailey.
At the request of the family, friends may call today from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. The funeral service to celebrate Rick's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15th at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead of Battle Creek, officiating. Additional visitation will be held at Music Funeral Services in Valdosta, GA from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 18th. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Nov. 19th in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Lake Park, GA. Memorial contributions in Rick's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5110 S. Sprinkle Road, Portage, MI, 49002 or to ASPCA-Animal Rescue, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY, 10128-6804.
