Robert L. “Bobby” Mason – 81
Of Hahira, GA passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at his home. He was born on September 5, 1942, in McDonough, GA to the late Simon Lamar Mason and Edna (Nail) Mason. Bob served his country proudly in the United States Army, stationed in Germany as a nuclear ordinance specialist in the 42nd Field Artillery Regiment. After returning, he met Mary Anne Stokes at West Georgia College and they were married in 1972. They then moved to Valdosta, GA where he took a job at Texture-Tex as a supervisor in the maintenance department. Bob accepted a job with Southern Bell 5 years later and remained in telecommunications for over 30 years. He was passionate about anything he put his mind to- especially woodworking, which eventually led him to building his family’s home outside Hahira. Bob was a computer programmer, audiophile, nature lover, honey connoisseur, and a jigsaw puzzle fanatic. He was a loyal supporter of everything local and Georgia made. He enjoyed beach trips with Mary Anne and all the family across the southeast, especially the beaches of St. Augustine, FL. Anyone who knew Bob knew his mild mannered, methodical, and modest ways and how much he loved and was loved by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Anne Mason of Hahira, Georgia; son, James Robert Mason of Nixa, Missouri; daughter, Mary Beth Hines (Jeremy) of Conrad, Iowa; grandchildren: Xander Mason, Xia Mason, Xoey Mason, Xayden Mason, Xiley Mason, Xylan Mason, Piper Hines, Ripley Hines, who all knew him as Papa; brother, Cony Mason (Freda) of Fayetteville, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Mason, and an infant daughter.
