Robert "Bobby" Bowden – 82
Of Valdosta, GA passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, GA. He was born on February 14, 1934 in Tifton, GA to Waco Ross and Luttie Belle Moore Bowden. He retired from the Valdosta Daily Times after over 40 years of service. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. Due to working with the youth at the Valdosta Boys and Girls Club for over 45 years he became affectionately known as "Coach Bowden". Following the youth that he coached and supported, he was also an active supporter of all sports in the Valdosta/Lowndes area. Coach Bowden loved to fish, pick blueberries, read his Bible and he will be remembered as a "giver". Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Bowden, a brother, Felton Bowden and a brother-in-law, Edsel Hensley.
Survivors include his Daughter & Son-in-Law, Micki & George Bogart of Dothan, AL; Sons, Tony Bowden of Acworth, GA, Robert Bowden of Memphis, TN; 7 Grandchildren, Jason Newman Jennifer, Jenifer Lux Patrick, Jared Newman, Chaz Bowden Kari Anne, Michael Seth Bowden, Dana, Caleb Bowden, Kaylin Bowden; 4 Great Grandchildren, Kennadie, Mollie, Hudson, Quinn; 2 Sisters & Brother-in-Law, Betty & Henry Daniel Berry of Valdosta, GA,
Jackie Hensley of Valdosta, GA; 2 Brothers & Sisters-in-Law, Randall & Jean Bowden of Valdosta, GA, David & Elizabeth Bowden of Kennesaw, GA; Sister-in-Law, Shirley Bowden of Jacksonville, FL; Mother of his children, Barbara Ann Peterman of Dothan, AL and a number of nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home. Messages of sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com .
