Robert Lee Leavens
Robert Lee Leavens, son of John Leavens, Jr. and Margaret Beatrice Baisden Leavens, was born in Coffee County, Georgia in 1936. Mr. Leavens had fond memories of his boyhood on the farm in Douglas, Georgia but was also very proud to have served in his country for 20 years in the Air Force. While stationed overseas in Saudi Arabia, he became a pen pal of a Georgia girl, Billie Gene Clemens, and they eventually married. He retired as a Master Sergeant having served during the Vietnam war. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Leavens spent his retirement traveling across the nation visiting his family and looking for new adventures.
He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted daughter, Marie L. Guest, of Lake Park, Georgia, and her husband, David R. Guest. Mr. Leavens was also an important figure in his grandchildren's lives. Corrine Sweet Preston of Albany, Georgia, and Logan Guest of Perry, Florida, have many fine memories of spending time with their Grandpa Bob.
Mr. Leavens also had a son Jimmy Lee Leavens Kim and four other grandchildren, Zachariah, Daniel, Kim and Gail Leavens of Anchorage, Alaska and London, England. He is also survived by a sister, Doris Taft Wilburn of Pearson, Georgia, and a brother Ronnie Leavens of Unadilla, Georgia. Having been raised as one of ten children, he is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews.
As per his wishes, he will be cremated and a casual memorial service will be held Sunday, June 7th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Grassy Pond Recreation Park in Lake Park, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 415 Cowart Avenue, Valdosta, GA. 31602.
