Robert "Bert" Ronald Simpson

Robert “Bert” Ronald Simpson, 70, of Lakeland, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1956, in Lakeland, Georgia, to the late Robert Simpson III and Patricia Louise Simpson (Lanier).

Bert was a farmer all his life, and he loved it. He loved the land he worked, the life it gave him, and even the smell of the dirt. He was a simple man who found joy in simple things.

Most of all, Bert was a good man who loved his family deeply. He will be remembered as a loving husband, daddy, PawPaw, and friend. He cherished his grandchildren, and they cherished their PawPaw just as much.

Bert lived a simple life, worked hard, loved his family, and left his mark on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Simpson; brothers: Tommy Simpson and Harold Simpson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Simpson of Lakeland, Georgia; son, Kyle Simpson (Maygan) of Lakeland, Georgia; daughter, Nichole Barber (Zach) of Nashville, Georgia; grandchildren: Evan Barber, Ethan Barber, Nate Simpson and expecting his granddaughter, Molly Simpson, due in October 2026; sister, Ann Lee of Lakeland, Georgia; sister-in-law, Debbie Simpson of Lakeland, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Knight Memorial Baptist Church, Lakeland with visitation one hour prior to the service. The graveside will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Valdosta.
