Lakeland

Robert Skinner, 90, of Lakeland, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Langdale Hospice House.

Born on October 28, 1935, in Lakeland, Georgia, Robert was the son of the late John Skinner and Lela Stone Skinner. A lifelong resident of the area, he was known for his strong faith, dedication to his family, and servant’s heart.

Robert retired from Brockway Standard after 34 years of faithful employment. In addition to his career, he devoted much of his life to ministry, serving as pastor of Arabia Primitive Baptist Church in Clinch County for many years. His love for the Lord and commitment to sharing the Gospel remained steadfast, and he continued preaching until declining health no longer allowed him to do so.

In his spare time, Robert enjoyed fishing and tending to his garden. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished time spent outdoors. Above all else, he treasured his family. His greatest pride and happiness came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Edwina Skinner; daughter, Beverly Skinner; grandson, Derek Brown; sister, Dorothy Fania; brothers: James Skinner, J.S. Skinner, Leon Skinner, Larry Skinner and Danny Skinner; son-in-law, Freddy Gaskins.

Survivors include his three daughters: Sylvia Gaskins (Myron Mills) of Nashville, Georgia, Gloria Bailey (Timmy) of Lakeland, Georgia, and Annette Brown (Shorty) of Lakeland, Georgia; a son, Robert Skinner (Cheryl) of Lakeland, Georgia; grandchildren: Adam Gaskins (Jessica), Deanna Dowd (Chris Ellis), Justin Gaskins (Alyssa Fenderick), Brandy Brantley, Monica Berryhill (Zack), Erik Brown (Laura), Kayla Bennett (Scott), Valerie Skinner (Cam), and Lonnie Skinner (Megan); 12 great-grandchildren: Bailey Brantley, Reagan Brantley, Finn Berryhill, Raine Berryhill, Aiden Dowd, Ryan Dowd, Kealee Sipes, Declan Bennett, Leela Pendleton, Aubree Williams, Evelyn Skinner, and Clayton Skinner; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Skinner (Ann) of Nashville, Georgia; and sister-in-law, Wylene Skinner of Nashville, Georgia.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his special caregiver, Becky Noles, for the compassionate care, kindness, and devotion she showed Robert throughout his illness. They also extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses, staff, and caregivers at Langdale Hospice House for the exceptional care, comfort, and support they provided during his final days. Their kindness and dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by the family.
