Ronnie Lee Bennett, 83, of Stockton, Georgia, passed away at his home on November 12, 2025. He was born on April 25, 1942, in Stockton to the late Major Lee Bennett and Gladys Edith (Brogdon) Bennett. Ronnie was a proud graduate of Lanier County High School, Class of 1960, where he earned the distinction of being the school’s first Star Student. He furthered his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and South Georgia College before completing a master’s degree in criminal justice from Valdosta State College.
Ronnie began his career in law enforcement with the Valdosta Police Department in 1967. During his 30 years of dedicated service, he held numerous positions, eventually serving as Interim Chief of Police before retiring from the department in 1997. His commitment to public safety continued as he served as Lakeland Police Chief from 1998 to 2000. After fully retiring from law enforcement, Ronnie remained devoted to his community, serving as a Lanier County Commissioner for eight years.
Ronnie’s love for people extended far beyond his official roles. He was well known for visiting friends throughout the community and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. At home, he found joy in tending his garden and “piddling” around Bennett Road.
